Virtually unknown species in cultivation, with conspicuously striated bark and large ovate-orbicular shallowly 5-lobed leaves to 20cm across. Bearing long pendant spikes of winged seed when we found this medium-sized tree growing at the edge of the forest on the island of Yakushima southern Japan in 2006.
