Description:
A personal favourite for the foliage alone, forming a tree, 6-12m tall. With leaves broadly elliptic to obovate, 18-35 x 8-17cm, the upper surfaces rugulose, with deeply impressed venation while the lower surfaces are covered with dense rusty indumentum. Flowering April-May bearing 15-20 stout flowered inflorescences of campanulate, whitish to cream, rarely pale pink with purple basal blotches. Best grown in a drained humus rich soil that is lime free, in a sheltered site from cold winds and in good light. Resulting from one of our collections gathered at 3,050m close to Thoka on the Dzongri Trail in north-western Sikkim in 2013. *** **** Only supplied as an open ground bare-rooted plant. Best taken in the cooler months as less watering is required.
