Where it only formed small densely clothed shrubs in the harsh exposure, with leathery orbicular-ovate leaves bearing fine spines along their rims. Carrying its whitish flowers in summer followed by plump red fruit in winter. Best grown in some shelter from severe cold in sun or shade in a drained fertile soil.
