Producing dense rounded spikes of small fluffy pinkie-purple flowers in early spring in all the terminal leaf axils, only occasionally followed by pale purple fruit. Originating from Chile where it has been over collected to close to extinction in the wild as it is used for basket-making. Easily grown in sun or shade, flowering far better in good light, in most types of fertile drained soils, best sited out of freezing winds.
