Forming a strongly aromatic deciduous large shrub-small tree in cultivation, with opposite leaves 15-40cm long comprised of 2-7 paired ovate leaflets pinnately arranged, that are pubescent below. Bearing dense terminal cymes of small creamy-yellow flowers, followed by clusters of rounded fleshy seed pods which mature to red splitting to reveal the glossy black seed inside. Best grown in full sun to part-shade, with shelter from cold winds in a drained soil.
