Pot Size: 20 litre Price: £100.00 Description: Forming a sizeable tree in the wilds of nornthern most Vietnam, which is where Peter Wharton and I gathered this collection in the autumn of 2007. Where this tree was over 20m tall, luckily the ground surrounding it was strewn with its sausage-shaped longitudinally ribbed woody seed only 6cm long in this collection. The result of the abundant racemes of the Styrax-like (but larger) flowers borne in March-April. With oblong-elliptic leaves remotely serrated, 13cm long. Nicknamed as Styrax on steroids here, they have proved to be difficult and expensive to introduce taking as long as 5 years to germinate. Best grown with other trees and shrubs when young, in a moisture retentive possibly acidic to neutral drained fertile soil.
