This deciduous shrub grows up to 4.5 meters, spreading as it matures. Its young branches are smooth and thick. The leaves grow in opposite pairs, are oval with shallow edges, measuring 7.5-12.5 cm and pale green on both sides. The upper surface is wrinkled and has a few hairs when young, while the underside is covered in soft down, especially along the veins. Small green flowering appear in June at the base of new shoots in small numbers. The fruit is black, top-shaped, and contains two seeds. Easily grown in any type of fertile drained soil, in sun or part shade.
