Veratrum longebracteatum

From a short thickened rootstock, a small species endemic to alpine slopes of northern Japan, bearing stems to 60cm tall. With few narrow almost grass-like broadly lanceolate leaves with elevated nerves, to 20cm long by only 2-4cm wide. With numerous, normally green but sometimes brown-purple spreading flowers, in terminal panicles July-August. Easily grown in sun to light shade in a cool spot in a well drained soil with a little moisture retention.
