Description: A functional evergreen perennial that is also ornamental grown for its sturdy grass-like thick-textured leaves, commonly used as an edging in gardens of the Far East. Soon forming dense clumps from the swollen roots that can only spread slowly, bearing upright terminal spikes of bright purple flowers in summer which are followed by blue-purple fruits. Height 40cm spread 30cm. Easily grown in either sun or shade in any type of drained fertile soil. From one of our collections gathered at the edge of a Chamaecyparis forest on the Chiba Peninsular Japan.
