Description:
This purple flowered selection is only one of many collections we made of a colourful but very variable species (confusing as there is S. formosus & formosoides from this area) varying from white through all the shades of pink to purple. A tufted perennial from fleshy roots with upwardly inclined few branched stems to 50cm, with clasping narrow undulating margined leaves and terminal funnel-shaped ray-flowers of a considerable size. A seed collections made in 2004 on Volcán Ruiz in the Colombian Paramo at 4230m.
