Where this strongly rhizomatous perennial grew on a sodden steep bank, forming a large colony of strong flexuous stems 1m long. With large stem-clasping glossy leaves and purple tipped funnel-shaped flowers in the upper leaf axils and in terminal cymes. Easily grown in sun or part-shade in a moisture retentive fertile drained soil, protect roots from frost.
