Which is a much faster growing form than the normal Japanese, capable of attaining 2m within a few years (10 from Japan). A long-lived evergreen shrub-small tree, to 18m tall in the wild but much less in the garden. Coming into its own in the winter months when other evergreens are looking bedraggled, this can be outstanding in its fresh glossy apple-green foliage. Will grow in most fertile soils except shallow chalk, in sun or shade.
