Description: From seed collected by Dan Hinkley in the mountains of northern Vietnam in 2006. An evergreen ancient forest species which forms impressive trees with leathery dark green glossy thick-textured leaves pale on their undersides, to 18cm long. Bearing star-shaped 9-petalled white flowers to 15 cm across May-June in the wild, followed by long spikes bearing seed capsules splitting to reveal the red-orange aril covered seed. Best grown in sun to light shade in a freely draining soil with good moisture retention out of freezing winds. Syn. Alcimandra.
