A small suckering ground covering shrub throwing out graceful frond-like stems with pinnately arranged glaucous-greyish fern-like branches of tiny leaflets and dense terminal spikes of deepest purple currant-like fruit. Well drained soil in sun, protect roots from frost. For far too long the name has been miss-applied to C. pteridoides a New Zealand creeping species
