Description:
Easily identified one of only two species with a distinctly knobbly rhizome (moniliform) simulating a string of beads. A semi-evergreen perennial species endemic to China, closely related to and similar in appearance to Polygonatum. With arching stems to 50 cm tall, of alternate glossy dark green narrowly ovate leaves. Bearing few distinct axially white purple tinged flowers 2.2cm long with recurving tips April-May, followed by persistent purplish fruit. Plant in leafy moist but well drained shade. Not the easiest plant to please, protect from severe frosts. ***** There appear to be several outlets offering plants under this name. We have yet to see one that is correctly named. *****
