Maturing to one of the most stunning hardy specimens that we grow, with conspicuous snake-bark branches, purple-red and bloomy when young. With handsome seven-five sharply palmately lobed glossy leaves emerging in deep coppery tones, held on bright red petioles. The small flowers are held in upright panicles, followed by red winged seed. Collected in 2002 from a 10m tall tree growing in a remote corner of Sikkim in the Lachung Valley, a deep furrow across the Himalayas in the direction of the Chinese border.
