Description:
Forming arching plants to 75cm tall with ovate bright green cladodes, each bearing as many as 5 red hanging fruit below, on pollinated female flowers. Forming sub-shrubs with evergreen stems directly from the slowly creeping rhizome, which can prevail for 3-4 years. A relatively recent introduction of this soft foliaged species that is only found growing in the countries surrounding the eastern end of the Black Sea. We were fortunate to be able to team up with Moscow Botanic Gardens and collect in some of the forests surrounding Sochi in late 2019. Which is where this collection was made from, steep sided moist valleys close to the Dagomis River. Easily grown in shade in any type of decent soil that does not dry out for too long.
