Pot Size: 3 litre (deep) Price: £15.00 Description: One of our own wild collection of this rhizomatous perennial, that we found growing in the Darjeeling area of Northern India in 1994, whilst trekking on the Singalila Ridge at nearly 2,500m. Here it formed wide clumps of vertical mahogany-red stems, with broadly lanceolate ribbed leaves, to 1m tall, which had turned yellow due to the freezing night temperatures. Bearing blackish seed encrusted in whitish flesh, the result of the June-October borne terminal spikes of deep-red bracts with protruding orange-yellow orchid-like flowers. Easily grown in sun or shade in humus rich well drained soil, protect the rhizomes from freezing in the coldest areas. Hardy to -15C, growing in our stock fields.
