Description: It is important to note that this is what is and has been sold in the UK under this cultivar name for the last 20 years. A small species (zongbayi) forming low dense mats of elliptic mid green glossy leaves heavily spotted with paler green. Having flowered for us with purple-red urn-shaped flowers with purple-white mushroom-shaped stigmas, it became obvious that it was the wrong plant. It is easily grown in a container or in a sheltered spot in the garden, in full shade where the soil cannot get waterlogged. A. fungilliformis is smaller yet similar in leaf, but the perianth lobes of the flowers are white with some of the purple of the perianth infusing the edges. See A. fungilliformis for an image.
