Bearing leathery textured leaves composed of 3-5 narrowly elliptical short stalked leaflets on long petioles. Carrying compound umbels of small flowers from spring to summer which transform to ellipsoid black fruit by the autumn. A rarely encountered plant in the far north of Vietnam, growing in the remnants of a highly degraded forest close to the border with China. Best grown in shelter from the coldest winds in full sun and a soil that does not dry out.
