With upright green stems 80-100cm tall with few branches in the upper parts, bearing ovate-lanceolate to elliptic leathery leaves to 5.5cm long still emerging as the stems extend. With terminal 2-5 flowered umbels of greenish-yellow funnel-shaped flowers squeezing their way out of the still unfurling foliage May-July, followed by globose blue-black berries. Best grown in a sheltered spot in part shade, or in a container, protecting from the coldest weather.
