Description: From one of our seed collections gathered at the edge of the alpine forest near Ixtalan, Oaxaca southern Mexico in the autumn of 2004 at 2400m. Where this species had formed a small colony of plants only 50 cm tall in the starved conditions of a steep bank, with glabrous pinnately arranged elliptic leaflets and terminal seed heads, which have turned out to be purple-lilac ray flowers. Best in a sunny warm spot in moist but well drained soil, protect the tuberous roots from severe frost.
