A. bulbous perennial species that we collected the seed of growing high up in the clouds on Cordillera de Talamanca in southern Costa Rica in 2004 at nearly 3000m. Where they formed dense colonies mixed with shrubs and other scrub on sunny well drained areas. With flat fan-forming grassy blades of foliage to 30 cm tall, bearing large yellow flat flowers displayed on taller branched stems, soon followed by inflated capsules of black seed. Requires full sun-part shade and a well drained soil.
