That I managed to gather seed of in the extreme north-eastern corner of Vietnam, well armed with permits and minders, late in 2017. Where it was locally plentiful growing in the dense shade of the forest, forming plants with flexuous green stems to 1.5m tall. A tuberous rooted perennial from a short creeping rhizome, with well branched stems. Leaves narrowly ovate with terminal and axillary red green tinted flowers, followed by blue-black orbicular berries. Best grown is a sheltered site in a moisture retentive but freely draining soil in light shade, protecting the rhizome from hard frost with a mulch.
