With small 7-9 lobed and serrated leaves, which were a coppery red contrasting with the pendant spikes of paired winged seed held horizontally. One of our seed collections we found growing on the mountains of Hiroshima, southern Honshu, Japan during out collecting trip in the autumn of 2005.
