(Alstroemeriaceae)

Bomarea superba - BSWJ16467

Pot Size: 2 litre (deep)
Price: £25.00
Description:
A new species for us, looking similar to B. patinii by the size of the inflorescences, but yellow in this flamboyant species. With huge terminal orbicular inflorescences getting on for the size of a football, in a dusky shade of yellow in the partly opened flowers we observed. Growing on twinning evergreen herbaceous stems to around 2-3m long, amongst tall herbaceous plants in the wild, from a bundle of tuberous roots. With ovate-lanceolate fleshy foliage arranged spirally on dark purple stems. From one of our seed collections made in open grassland on route up to Nevado del Ruiz in Santa Marta de Cabal at 3,070m, part of the Central Mountain Range. Best grown in a rich well-draining soil, in shade for the roots with protection from frost. SHOULD BE AVAILABLE FROM LATE SPRING 2025
