From nearly 3,100m altitude, growing at the start of the Paramo, only forming a relatively small twining herbaceous climber to 3-4m long, clothed in slender foliage and terminating in umbels of orange funnel-shaped elongated flowers, with yellow interiors and opening all speckled red, born from mid-summer until late autumn. Easily grown in a rich, but well draining soil, ideally within the shelter of an evergreen shrub providing protection for the roots from severe frost.
