Pot Size: 5 litre Price: £45.00 Description: Arising from a creeping woody rhizome, an evergreen sub-shrub with upright unbranched stems 1-2m tall, but usually half that in gardens. Bearing normally ovate abruptly soft pointed cladodes to 12.5 x 7 cm, with both male and female white and purple tiny flowers carried in the cooler months, on the cladode in various positions. Followed by red fruit when pollination takes place. From Andalucia southern Spain where this soft-leaved species used to be a familiar native, but like so many plants it has become threatened in modern times. As luck would have it we found a stand of it close to where we were guests in the mountains near Competa, which was about to be cleared for an orchard in 2013. Shelter from hard frosts.
