A deciduous dioecious shrub highly valued in its native Japan, for its culinary properties, that we collected the seed of from the Chiba area not far from the east coast in 2015. Sansho, the seed is used as a peppery spice, while the young leaves are used as a paste or garnish, young leaves can also be dried. Easily cultivated in part-shade to full sun in a drained fertile soil.
