An imposing spineless thistle-like perennial that we collected seed of from the challenging conditions of Waraksan a cold mountainous area of northern South Korea. Where this tall perennial species was to be seen on sunny grassy banks, forming broad clumps of deeply pinnately lobed lyre-shaped leaves to 30cm long, white and woolly below with upright stems to 1.5m tall with upright branches, bearing the thistle-like purple-pink ray flowers late summer-autumn. Easily grown in full sun-part shade in any type of drained retentive fertile soil.
