Description:
The ultimate passion fruit, which is rarely available for sale in the UK, known as Sweet Granadilla. This is from seed we obtained from the domesticated form of the species in Colombia, during our expedition there in February 2024, where it is known as maracuya. Which forms a large tendril climber, with sizeable glossy dark green almost rounded heart-shaped leaves, trailing up to 5m tall. Almost hiding the large tennis-ball sized orange-yellow fruit, which succeeds the sizeable white and purple passion flowers, which ripen to my more familiar sweet and juicy favourite fruit. Best attempted under protection, as they are not as frost hardy as the normal blue passion flower, Passiflora caerulea is in the UK.
