With rosettes of sharply spined stiff lanceolate leaves, surrounding a flowering spike adorned by large bracts subtending the seed capsules, where the bright blue funnel-shaped flowers had been. Best grown in good light in a nutrient deficient soil/compost, that is adequately drained. Monocarpic.
