Description:
A delicate-looking species we have stumbled across on several occasions, as well as some very similar, which we find growing at lower altitudes, that are usually hairy. Meanwhile this green and red flowered species is found in cold wet areas at altitudes of up to 4,000m in the Central Mountain Range of Colombia. Here they form decidedly climbing slender plants supported by the tendril-like petioles of the delicate looking perfoliate foliage, which twine around the surrounding shrubs and herbaceous plants to a height of around 3m. Bearing solitary flowers on slender red stems in most of the leaf axils, followed by green furrowed seed held in threes. Best grown with the roots in shade allowing the top growth to climb into the sun. Best sheltered from severe or prolonged frosts.
