A distinct eastern European species which we have grown into a wide colony over many years in our gardens. Bearing alternate widely-ovate ribbed leaves on very short clasping petioles that are glossy above of a bright green colour, to approximately 15 x 10cm. With axillary racemes of up to 4 pendant tubular white green-tipped flowers late April-May. Easily grown in part to full shade in most types of fertile drained soils. Syn. P. hirtum
